Coworking space wall graphics

A coworking floor has three audiences: members who see it daily, visitors who need the loo, and prospects on a tour deciding whether to sign. It is also usually on someone else's lease.

Frosted glass partitions with printed words and images

Read the lease before the mood board.

Operators often lease the building, and leases often say what must happen to walls and glass when you leave. Before you plan anything, find out what your agreement says about alterations and reinstatement. Then plan each graphic with its exit in mind, as the cost of removing a wall of vinyl and repainting behind it is easy to overlook.

Who is each wall for?

Prospects. A tour takes in a few set places: the entrance, the kitchen and the best meeting room. Spend there. One strong wall they want to photograph does more than ten small ones.

Members. They live with the walls, so slogans wear out quickly. A cheerful line about hustle is fun on Monday and grating by March. Leave words out in favour of colour, pattern or photography of the neighbourhood, and leave the desks' sight lines calm.

Visitors. They need the toilets, the right meeting room and the way out. Simple wayfinding saves your community manager from answering the same question all day. It is worth doing on every floor.

Glass does the most work

Open-plan spaces rely on glass, and it needs handling carefully. Frosted bands give meeting rooms privacy at seated height, and let light through. Clear glass doors and screens in workplaces usually need markings so nobody walks into them, so check with your building manager or health and safety adviser what is expected. A graphic can do this job and look good at the same time.

Rooms with names

Naming meeting rooms helps bookings and gives you a place for personality. Use cut vinyl at a size that can be read from the corridor, and match the wording exactly to your booking system.

Things that change every month

Member companies come and go. Do not put their names on a wall. A directory made of slide-in or magnetic panels can be updated by the front desk, and events and sponsor posters can sit in one set place near the coffee.

Useful to know

Your questions.

We run several sites. Can the graphics match?

Yes. Keep your master artwork and material specification in one place so that each new site is ordered the same way. Tell us about the whole estate when you ask for a quote.

Can members add their own branding to a private office?

That is your decision and the landlord's. Removable film on an office door or screen is usually the easiest route to offer.

Will vinyl stick to a freshly painted wall?

Let paint cure fully first, as new paint can release gases and lift a graphic. Our notes on preparing walls explain what to check, and a test patch is always sensible.
