Removable wall vinyl

Removable wall vinyl is printed film with a gentler adhesive, made for walls that must go back to how they were. It suits tenants, event spaces, nurseries and retail teams who update their rooms regularly.

Your paint decides more than the vinyl does

A film that peels neatly from one wall can lift the paint from another. Smooth, well-bonded silk or eggshell finishes are usually the friendliest. Chalky matt paint, damp plaster and textured or heavily patched walls are risky, as the adhesive grips the loose surface or fails to grip at all. Fresh paint also needs time to cure, so check the manufacturer's guidance before anything goes on. Sticking a small sample somewhere hidden for a few days is the most reliable test you can do.

Planning a mural that comes down cleanly

Larger images are printed in vertical drops that overlap or butt together, so think about where those joins fall. Keep faces and small text off the seams. Measure the wall at several heights, as few rooms are square, and note sockets, switches and skirting. Include a little extra around the edges for trimming. Our wall graphics page covers permanent alternatives, and if the design needs reworking for a new shape, graphic design support can help you adapt it.

Taking it down, and reusing it

Start at a top corner and pull slowly back on itself at a low angle rather than straight out. Gentle warmth from a hairdryer can soften the glue on stubborn sections. Removable does not mean indefinitely removable: leave a graphic up well beyond its intended period and it may become harder to shift. Some products can be repositioned during fitting, but few survive being moved to another wall, so treat reuse as a bonus. If you rent, or the space is public, check your lease and any fire rating the venue requires.

Useful to know

Your questions.

Will removable wall vinyl damage my paint?

It is designed to minimise damage, but no one can promise a clean result on every wall. Weak or poorly prepared paint can lift, which is why a small hidden test is worth doing first.

Can I put it on wallpaper or textured plaster?

These surfaces are poor candidates. Texture reduces contact, so edges tend to lift, while wallpaper can tear on removal. A printed panel fixed to the wall may be the better route, so ask us.
