10mm Polyboard
Thick boards are usually heavy boards. This one is not, and that opens up some useful tricks for shops, windows and short-run displays.

Depth for almost no weight.
Polyboard at 10mm has a soft foam core, so even a large piece can be lifted with a couple of fingers. You get the deep edge and the shadow of a chunky panel without any of the structural worry. That makes it a designer's board: it is for building up displays, not for standing up to hard knocks.
Ideas that use the thickness
- Layered displays. Mount one panel on another, smaller one, so that the front sits proud of the background. A simple stack gives a window scene real depth.
- Risers and blocks. Boards can be fixed together into simple plinth shapes or props for a shop. Ask us what can be made.
- Floating panels. On a wall, a thick light board looks as if it has been fixed from behind, even when the fixing is only a few pads.
- Hanging statements. A deep panel hung in a window feels more solid than a sheet. See planning a shop window display for how to arrange the layers.
The edge is a design decision
Look at the side of the board. You will see its foam core, and the cut is rarely as clean as a hard plastic board. For a panel that sits at eye level, decide what you want to do.
| Option | Result | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Leave it plain | Honest, light, slightly raw | Short displays, viewed mainly from the front |
| Tape or cover it | Neater and more finished | Reception and shop panels; ask us what is possible |
| Hide it in a frame | Clean lines all round | Long-running panels |
| Change to 10mm Foamex | Denser, harder edge | Panels at close range |

Where the limits are
Thickness can mislead people into thinking this board is tough. It is not. The surface marks if pressed with a thumb, and corners crush if a panel is dropped. Keep it away from busy corridors, moisture and strong sunshine. For a retail window, where light and heat can build up behind glass, check on it from time to time and ask us if a sunny window is the plan.

Your questions.
Can I glue layers of Polyboard together?
Yes, but some solvents will eat into the foam. Use a foam-safe adhesive or double-sided tape, and test on an offcut.
Is 10mm Polyboard strong enough to stand on the floor?
As a light display, with a base or a brace, it can work. It is not robust enough to stand in a busy walkway.
Can it be cut into letters?
Ask us. Tell us the shape and size. Very thin strokes in thick foam can be fragile, so bold shapes are easier.
