10mm Foamex boards

A 10mm board looks like an object, not a sign. That presence is what you are paying for, so make sure you can see the edge.

Bright exhibit interior with patterned floor and printed panels seen from above

You buy this one for the edge.

Stand a 10mm panel a little off a wall and its thickness catches the eye. It casts a real shadow and seems to float. In a showroom, a reception area or an exhibition, a row of thick panels gives a solid, built quality that a thin sheet does not. If people only ever see it head-on, much of that value is lost.

It earns its price when

  • The panel stands up on its own. Set in feet or a slot, a thick board has the stiffness to stay upright.
  • The board is large and has few fixings. It resists bowing better than thinner Foamex.
  • People will see the side. Our page on board edges shows why this deserves some thought.
  • The piece will get knocked. It feels more robust, as there is more material to take the bump.
  • You want lettering or logos with depth. Ask us about shaped pieces. Any cutting is a separate question from mounting.

It is overkill when

  • The panel is going flat onto a solid wall, with its edges hidden in a frame.
  • Staff have to carry it, stack it or post it often, as it is bulky.
  • It is a short promotion that will be thrown away. 5mm Foamex will do.
  • You want it to stay perfectly flat outdoors for a long time. It is still foam PVC, and a stiff aluminium board is a better fit for that.

A choice of two 10mm boards

Our list has two boards at this thickness, and they are the same price.

Guide prices from our price list. They exclude VAT and delivery and assume print-ready artwork.

With cost out of the equation, choose on behaviour. Foamex is the tougher and heavier board, and it copes with damp and busy places. 10mm Polyboard is much lighter, which matters on a hanging panel, but its surface dents more easily and it is an indoor material.

Working out the fixings

Thick board is heavier than you would expect. A large panel should not rely on a few sticky pads, so plan mechanical fixings or a proper ledge. If it is hanging above people, have it checked by whoever is responsible for the building. Fitting arrangements are agreed in your quote.

Useful to know

Your questions.

Can the edges be painted or covered?

The white foam edge is often left plain and looks clean. If you want a coloured or finished edge, ask us what can be done.

Can 10mm Foamex be cut to a shape?

Tell us the shape and supply a clean cutting line. We will confirm whether that can be done at the thickness you want.

Will a 10mm board stand up without support?

It needs something at the base, such as feet, a slot or a ledge. A flat edge alone will tip over if someone brushes past it.
