Backdrop printing
Set the scene with a printed backdrop for a stage, exhibition or presentation.
Delegates look at the stage for hours, and the photographs and video last far longer than the event. This guide helps event managers and AV teams specify conference stage backdrops that work with the screens, the lighting and the room.

Get the set drawing from your AV supplier before anyone designs anything. Projection screens, LED walls, lecterns and speaker monitors all sit in front of the backdrop, and they can hide a surprising amount of it. Mark the visible area on your layout, then place logos inside that zone and above head height for seated panels. Check the access route as well, because a long backdrop may need to arrive in sections.
Large fabric banners are often chosen because a matt surface handles stage lighting well and can be rolled or folded for transport, depending on the material. Seams are the detail to plan for. Wide conference stage backdrops may be joined, so keep faces and small text away from the join positions. Venues often ask for flame retardant materials, so find out what your venue requires and what paperwork it wants, then pass that on so we can look at suitable options.
A logo that looks huge on your desktop can shrink once it is ten metres from the audience. Keep the layout simple, use strong contrast, and avoid fine patterns, which can shimmer on video. Think about speakers too: a very dark or very bright area behind a face makes exposure harder for the camera crew. If the design is still in progress, ask about our graphic design help, and the artwork guide covers file setup for large sizes.
Often, if the design avoids dates and the material is stored carefully. Keep the year and event theme on a separate panel or on screen, so the main backdrop stays current for longer.
Usually something has to support it, such as truss, a tension frame, pipe and drape or the venue's rigging. Find out what is available on site, as that decides whether pole pockets, eyelets or another fixing makes sense.
