Outdoor poster printing is less about the design than about how the sheet survives wind, rain and sunlight. This page helps event organisers, venues and marketers choose a stock based on the way the poster will be displayed.

A pasted poster bonds to a board and needs a thin, opaque paper, as our billboard printing page explains. A poster inside a sealed case or weatherproof frame has some protection, so ordinary poster paper may do, although condensation and sun can still affect it. A poster fixed directly to railings, hoardings or a board with no cover faces everything, so it needs a synthetic stock that will not turn to pulp. Identify which of these applies first, as it largely decides the material.
Synthetic poster materials resist tearing and water far better than paper, though they cost more and behave differently when handled. For a long display, a rigid board or PVC banner may be more sensible than any poster, and correx printing is a common option for short-term site and event signs. Sunlight fades all inks over time, with reds and yellows often affected first, so long displays need UV-resistant materials. Tell us the dates on site, and we can suggest what makes sense for that duration.
People outside are often walking or driving, so you get a few seconds at most. Use one main message, large type and high contrast. Check readability by viewing the design at thumbnail size on screen. Leave wider margins if clips, frames or weather seals will cover the edges. A QR code needs to be large enough to scan from where people will really stand, and it should be tested. Before fixing anything, make sure you have the permission of the site owner, as advertising in public places can have rules.
That depends on the material and how it is fixed. Uncoated paper fails quickly if soaked, whereas synthetic stocks handle rain far better. Tell us the location and dates, and we'll suggest a suitable option.
Not always. A laminate can add protection on some materials, but pasted posters are not laminated and framed ones may not need it. Whether it helps depends on the display method and duration.
