Hotel interior graphics

Hotel interior graphics range from a single lobby mural to hundreds of matching bedroom pieces, and each zone wears differently. This page is for hotel operators, interior designers and refurbishment contractors writing a specification.

Corridors, lobbies and bedrooms wear differently

Corridors take the hardest punishment, with luggage trolleys and housekeeping carts scraping at hip height. A tougher wallcovering or laminated print below dado level is worth discussing, even if the upper wall is lighter. Lobbies are about scale and first impressions, so a wall mural needs artwork built for its real size. Bedrooms get less abuse but are seen up close, which is where canvas prints or framed art can feel more considered than a printed wall.

Fire performance belongs in the specification early

Hotels often have to meet specific fire requirements for wall finishes, particularly on escape routes, and those requirements depend on the building and the area involved. We will not guess at them. Ask your fire consultant or building control contact what is needed, then give us that requirement before materials are chosen. We can look at which products have suitable test documentation. Sorting this at the design stage avoids reworking a scheme when the contractor asks for paperwork at handover.

Working floor by floor while guests stay

Many refurbishments happen with the hotel open, so print is often needed in phases. Group the schedule by floor, with each item coded to a room type, so a fitter can unpack one box and finish one corridor. Keep a record of the approved colour proof and material, because a repeat order months later should match what is already on the wall. Before committing to a full run, view a sample under the hotel's own lighting, since warm bedside lamps change colours noticeably.

Your questions.

Do hotel wall graphics need a fire rating?

They may, depending on the building and location, especially on escape routes. Your fire consultant or building control contact should confirm the requirement, and we can then look at materials with the right documentation.

Can you repeat a hotel print run later and keep it matching?

Reprints are easier when the same material and approved proof are kept on record, but slight variation between batches can happen. Tell us about likely future phases at the start so we can plan around them.
