People in a waiting room are often anxious, and the walls around them can either help or add to it. This page is for practice managers, estates teams and designers planning waiting room graphics for healthcare settings such as GP surgeries, dental practices and private clinics.

Nature scenes, soft landscapes and gentle colour tend to feel calmer than busy abstract patterns. Some people, including those living with dementia or sensory sensitivities, may find strong patterns or scenes with false depth confusing, so ask clinical colleagues or patient groups to review ideas before you commit. Avoid medical imagery unless it has a clear purpose. A children's corner can be more playful, but keep it separate from areas where adults wait. Our wall graphics can run edge to edge or as a single feature panel.
Before choosing a material, speak to whoever owns infection prevention at your site. They may have rules about wall finishes, seams, and the disinfectants used on them, and those rules vary between settings. Tell us the requirements and products involved, and we can look for a suitable finish with a sealed, wipeable surface. Where wall-applied film is not allowed, a framed piece or a rigid panel from our acrylic printing range may be easier to wipe down and remove.
Waiting rooms collect sheets of laminated A4 taped to the wall. Replace the permanent ones, such as how to check in or what to do if you feel unwell, with one tidy printed panel using large, plain type and strong contrast between text and background. Accessibility guidance from your organisation should steer the type size. Leave changing information in a poster frame so reception can update it. A calmer wall with fewer messages usually gets each message read.
They can be, but it depends on your infection control policy and cleaning regime. Check with the person responsible at your site, then share their requirements with us so we can suggest a suitable finish.
Many practices choose calm landscapes or water scenes that give nervous patients something pleasant to look at. A ceiling panel above the chair is another option, though fixing methods need checking with your building manager.
