Pole pocket banners

Pole pocket banners have a sleeve along one or more edges so a rod or tube slides straight through, with no eyelets on show. They suit stage backdrops, flagpoles, parades and hanging signs where a clean top edge matters.

Measure the pole before you size the banner

The pocket has to suit the pole, so start there. Measure its diameter, or better still its circumference, because a sleeve that only just matches will snag as you feed it on. Allow some slack, and more again for thick material or for poles with end caps, finials or brackets that must pass through. Give us those dimensions and we can work out a sensible pocket size with you. If you are still comparing fixing methods, our banner printing page covers the wider choices.

Top sleeve only, or top and bottom?

A single top pocket lets the banner hang freely, which looks relaxed but allows it to lift and sway. A second pocket along the bottom takes a weighted bar or lower pole, keeping the print taut and flat. That matters behind speakers, where creases show up in photographs. Side pockets suit vertical poles, such as a banner running up a mast. Outdoors, think about wind as well: a taut sheet behaves like a sail, so mesh banners may be a safer choice on an exposed site.

Keeping artwork away from the seam

The fold that forms a pocket uses up material, and anything printed inside it disappears from view. Decide whether your stated size is the visible area or the overall size including pockets, then say so clearly, because this is the most common source of confusion. Keep logos and text well away from the seam, and let background colour run right to the edge so nothing looks cut short. Our artwork guide explains bleed and file setup, and we can advise on the allowance for your size.

Your questions.

Can pole pocket banners have eyelets as well?

Often, yes. Eyelets at the corners give you a second way of tying the banner off, which can help on breezy sites. Tell us how it will be fixed and we'll advise whether that suits the material.

Do I need to order the pole with the banner?

Many customers already have a fixed pole, rail or stage bar, so the pocket is simply sized to that. If you need hardware too, describe the setting and we'll tell you what we can arrange.
