16in x 12in prints
This print costs the same as A3 and looks almost the same size. The difference is in the shape, and that is what decides which one your picture needs.

Same price as A3, different shape.
Our list prices the two together, so money will not help you choose.
| Quantity | Price each |
|---|---|
| 1 print | £7.99 |
| 5+ prints | £5.50 |
| 20+ prints | £3.99 |
Large format poster printing has a £35 minimum order, so talk to us if you only want a print or two.
Guide prices from our price list. They exclude VAT and delivery and assume print-ready artwork.
Here are the actual measurements. A 16in x 12in print is 406.4mm x 304.8mm. A3 is 420mm x 297mm. So A3 is about 14mm longer, and 16in x 12in is about 8mm deeper. If you held one over the other, you would hardly see the difference, but your image would.
Which suits your file?
| Where the image came from | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Most phones | 16in x 12in | Phones are usually 4:3, so no crop |
| Micro Four Thirds camera | 16in x 12in | Also 4:3 |
| Document or poster designed as A3 | A3 | Keeps the layout intact |
| Slide deck in 4:3 | 16in x 12in | Same shape |
| DSLR at 3:2 | Either, both crop | A3 is the closer of the two |
Your phone and this size
A typical 12 megapixel phone image is 4,032 x 3,024 pixels. Printed at 16 inches wide, that comes to 252 pixels per inch, with no crop. For a picture on a wall or a desk that is comfortably sharp, as long as the photo was in focus and in good light. If you are working from a screenshot or a picture saved from social media, the file will be much smaller, so find the original. Our guide to enlarging a phone photo explains how to check.
In the hand and on the wall
Think of a large place mat. It is good for a kitchen, a study or a hallway, or for a set of holiday photographs. In an office, it is large enough for a team photo to be recognised. It is also easy to send, as a single print rolled in a tube or flat in a stiffened envelope will usually go by post. Our price list shows the current rates by weight.
The frame trap
This is where the wrong choice causes real trouble.
- A 30 x 40cm frame is common on the high street, but it is too small: 16in x 12in is 406mm x 305mm, so it needs trimming by about 6mm on one side and 5mm on the other.
- An A3 frame is wide enough, but it is 8mm too shallow.
- A 12 x 16in frame, sold by name, will fit. It is not found everywhere in the UK, so look before you print.
If you have already bought a frame, measure the inside of the rebate and choose the print to suit. Ask us if you need something different from the listed size. Framing is also available on request.
Sets and offices
A school, a charity or a team can get a good rate on a full wall of photographs, because different pictures still count towards the same quantity break when they are all this size and on one order.
Small prints in sets.

Your questions.
Is 16in x 12in bigger than A3?
Not really. The two have almost the same area. A3 is a little longer, and 16in x 12in is a little deeper.
Can a poster designed for A3 be printed at 16in x 12in?
Only with a crop or added space at the edges, as the shape is different. If it was designed for A3, the simplest thing is to print it at A3.
Do I need to resize my phone photo before I send it?
No. Send the original file, and tell us the size you would like. Resizing a copy can only lose information.
