Floor vinyl laminates are the clear textured layers that go over a printed floor graphic, protecting it from foot traffic and adding grip. Retailers, event organisers and facilities teams need to understand them before a sticker goes down in a walkway.

A printed film without protection would scuff within hours in a busy space. The laminate takes the abrasion so the ink underneath does not, and it also changes the surface underfoot, as these films usually have a textured or embossed finish. Some are rated for slip resistance by the manufacturer. Any rating applies to that product under its test conditions, so ask for the data, then check with whoever manages the site what your floor actually needs. Our floor graphics page covers the overall system.
A textured film diffuses light, so the print appears a little softer and less saturated than an unprotected sample would. Small text can lose sharpness, and very dark areas may show scuffing and dust sooner. Lean towards bold shapes, generous type and brighter colours. Direction arrows and queue markers should be readable from standing height, which often means larger type than you first think. Our artwork guide explains how to set up your file, and a printed sample of the finish is worth requesting if detail matters.
Smooth sealed floors such as vinyl, polished concrete and tile are the usual base, but the adhesive, the print film and the laminate must work as a set. Carpet, rough concrete and outdoor paving need products made for those surfaces, so do not assume one laminate fits all. Clean the floor thoroughly and let it dry before application, because dust and polish residue are common causes of lifting. Rounded corners resist being kicked up. Plan for how often the floor is mopped, too, since machine cleaning adds wear.
They help, but safety depends on the product, the floor, and conditions such as wet shoes. Ask for the manufacturer's slip data and have the site's safety lead check it against their own requirements.
That is not advisable. An ordinary gloss film is not made for foot traffic and may be slippery. Floor graphics need a laminate specified for that use, chosen to suit the surface and the duration.
